Mesh over egg crating

How do you secure your mesh to the egg crating for the false bottom? I have a multiple level false bottom, egg crate stacked on top of each other. Should I drape the mesh over the egg crate and then silicone it to the bottom glass?

I just use cable ties to secure the screen to the egg crate.

I also use zip ties to attach it

i use the wieght of the substrate. which is small pee gravel, sometimes peat on top of that then moss.
