Default Specific Azureus Breeding Info

Hello, I'm working on a 50g cube and am planning to house a group of about four Azureus. I want these guys to enjoy their habitat and breed at the same time. Anyone here have some specific breeding advice towards Azureus ( sites other than huts). I'm also thinking of creating a series of small pools on the side of a hill in the viv and give them some good shade with some plants. Let me know what you think of this experts!

I've seen those tanks in person at where I used to work. They are really tall. Are you sure you want to put azureus in there? I'd be setting it up for arboreal species. It doesn't really have that much of a foot print. But whatever floats your boat.

As for the breeding thing, friends of mine just have good luck with the huts like you mentioned, but I've heard that the will also lay in shady spots of the tank on top of leaves like pothos or philodendron. Good luck with it all!

I have to agree with Frogtofall. This tank would be better used for an arboreal species. You are going to have a lot of wasted space in this tank if you go with azureus.

Also this tank does have a small foot print for a group of four azureus. If you end up having more than one female in the group you will more than likely have fighting amoung them. This will lead to stress and eventually a death of a frog. I have had problems with females fighting in a 40 gallon tank in the past and have had to separate them. I usually keep my azureus in pairs or in trios. Two males to one female.

Hope that helps!

I'm planning on a kind of spiral staircase design with many levels that will actually increase the foot print for the little guys. All slopes won't be anything they can't handle. Any breeding info??

A covered petri dish, or some plants with smooth leaves that overlap. Mine normally only lay on the leaves after they have eggs in the hut.

No water required....the parents will keep the eggs moist if you are planning on leaving them in the viv.

They empty their bladder onto the eggs. You know like when you used to catch toads when you were a kid? They'd "pee" on you? Well its not pee, its mostly water but I think it does contain some form of ammonia like, urea or uric acid... or ammonia... haha.

Mine like to lay in their coco huts most of the time, but every now and then they will lay the eggs on a leaf. Mine breed like rabbits once I get them going. They don't seem to be too picky about the tank. I would be cautious about having 4 adult azureus in that tank since the females can fight. Soem people keep them in groups without problems, but I think they do best in pairs.
