Default Perfect froglet tanks

Just thought I'd drop everyone a line on a good deal on tanks that are awesome for raising froglets. Petsmart sells glass 2.5 gallon Perfecto aquariums with the glass lids and stick on handle included for $10. They're meant for bettas, but with a little dab of silicone under the notches in the top rim, they're fly and tiny froglet proof too. I just line the bottom with coco bedding, and stick in a philodendron or pothos cutting. Stick the handle on one of the short ends, and lay a fluorescent fixture along the top of several tanks for the plants.

Once the froglets are big enough to move to another tank or get sold, I just pitch out everything in the tank, wash them with weak bleach solution, and they're ready to use again. I buy them every chance I get, and I've cleaned out my local stores.

These have been around for ages and I've been using them for ages myself. Only problem... PRICE.

For $10 you could go to Wal-mart and get more than one of the Sterilite containers with clear tops and use them to rear froglets, which a lot of people do.

The little 2.5 gals look nice though.

I have use the Serilite/Rubbermade shoe/sweater boxes in the past, as you say, like many others (though I'd rather cut off my own toes than buy anything at Wal-Mart). I still use them for raising springtails and CFBs, in fact. I just prefer to use the tanks with froglets, because with the tanks it's easy to look in on them without opening the top, and you can have lights over them. Plus most of the plastic containers that I've used aren't fly proof.

Yeah those things are great Kyle. I have a whole bunch of them loaded with froglets right now. Being clear you can easily check out the inhabitants plus they are relatively inexpensive and stackable. Some long fiber spahgnum, a few leaves, perhaps a sprig of pothos or ivy and voila...instant froglet viv.

And since they are clear, you can get light into them, unlike sterilites.

At the big box store, they have some real nice cube 1 gallon containers that have a nice sealing rubbery type top, the only thing I don't like about them is the blue top, and they aren't crystal clear, being square, they both maxmize shelf space and can be stacked.

While we are talking bang for buck...how come no one mentioned you can buy a ten for the same price as a 2.5?
