I vote for lettuce leaves. Romaine seems to work well...

Once you think you have all your slugs/snails gone, you don't. Trust me. You need to really keep on top of it. Personally, I use lettuce leaves to control the infestation, until I don't see any more feeding.

Then I sprinkle a little sluggo into the tanks. Iron Phosphate bait, it comes with a lot of names. I have found it to be safe for my frogs. You don't want any baits with other stuff in them, just the iron phosphate. About a tablespoon per 20G tank, applied every couple of weeks for a few months. That will do it. It is a pain in the rear end.

FTW, slug eggs are quite visible. They look like little clusters of jelly beans, smaller than a pinhead usually but still easy to see. If you carefully examine and clean your plants before you put them into a new tank, you should be able to spot the eggs and treat at that time (or just not use the plant). Getting as much of the original soil/moss/planting mix off of your initial plant material as you can is really important in setting up a slug free tank. I have gotten in the habit of setting up my tanks and immediately adding sluggo. I let all my tanks sit for a least a month before adding frogs.
