Pure water is an extremely harsh environment for organisms to grow. The problem is that bacteria can collect and colonize on the membrane, increasing the amount of bacteria that passes the membrane and/or damaging the membrane itself. There is very little risk of bacterial blooms in good RO water after the fact.
