I have the one on African amphibians, but I think it's a bit choppy for some countries and not as complete as I would have hoped, but still the best book for that region I've seen.
As for gifts, I got a new sleeping bag that will fit into a nalgene bottle (weighing at just a pound), and a 4 lb hammock tent. My pack is now half the weight from before.
