Default Fine Spotted Leucs and 'Normal' Leucs

Just curious how the Fine Spotted Leucs came about. Was it selective breeding or are they actually different morphs (I.E. from different locations)?

I ask because I already have the 'normal' variation and I would like to add some fine-spotted Leucs but I don't want to mix them if they are actually different breeds. I have a feeling I will be disappointed to find out that they should not be mixed but figured it was worth asking.

Thanks in advance,
Justin
